Economic Equality Master Data Management Upgrade

A division of the mayoral office in a major metropolitan area needed to upgrade and modernize their IBM Master Data Management (MDM) system. Devoted to the expansion of economic opportunity, this division facilitates innovative product development, and cross-agency data sharing to create one “golden” user record to make it more convenient for residents to access the resources and support they need.

Along with an MDM upgrade, the division needed to enhance the system’s supporting components with new capabilities, many of which were included with the latest versions of IBM products. These supporting components included IBM InfoSphere Integration Server, IBM DataStage, and IBM QualityStage. Additionally, the division needed to develop a user-friendly web portal for loading and matching data within the MDM application.

PruTech’s data engineers were tasked with performing a comprehensive system modernization. They began by upgrading the current IBM Infosphere MDM from version 8.0 to version 11.6, a massive enhancement in terms of system capability. Using IBM DataStage, they conducted a complete data integration via the three-phase process of extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL). The team also completed a full service integration via DataShare using Message Broker, implementing backward compatibility at the integration layer for their current front-end application.

Other solutions included data standardization via IBM QualityStage, suspected duplicate processing to condense data sets, and a probabilistic matching engine to permanently store data while maintaining privacy.

Implementing the latest version of IBM Infosphere MDM empowered the client to achieve a new level of master data management. Data integration and standardization via IBM IIS DataStage and QualityStage, respectively, helped compile and convert all data into a consistent form, facilitating collaboration and efficiency. The system upgrade also equipped the division with the most up-to-date data governance and stewardship tools, enabling them to ensure the highest standards of data quality and security.

Such a smooth transition from one version of their MDM system to reduce multiple duplications of the same record and allow the division to continue providing their citizens with the best service possible.
